Arshavin praises Liverpool`s spirit after Anfield classic
Arsenal forward Andrei Arshavin praised Liverpool`s fighting spirit after the two clubs` epic 4-4 draw at Anfield, and also said that something in the stars must have helped him score four times.
Arshavin`s fourth goal came in the last minute of normal time and gave Arsenal a 4-3 lead. However, three minutes into injury time, Yossi Benayoun popped up to earn the hosts a point.
"Even when the scoreboard read 4-4, I couldn`t help thinking that Liverpool could still have time to snatch a fifth, their team spirit is so strong," Arshavin told Radio Zenit.
"Four shots and four goals," he told Sport Express. "If you take into account that I had the ball about ten times, no more, then I think we can say that I wouldn`t have managed this without the intervention of the stars."
"I`m not sure which of the four goals I liked more," he went on. "The first was the result of a good build-up, and it was a decent shot for the second."
He also said that even he had been surprised by his pitch-length dash to get on the end of a Theo Walcott pass and hammer past Pepe Reina for Arsenal`s fourth.
"I amazed even myself when I found the strength from somewhere to run from one penalty area to the other in the 90th minute," he revealed. "No one can outpace Walcott in our side. But I managed to do it. How? Down to what? I guess it must just have been my day."
Arshavin`s former Zenit teammate, Alexander Kerzhakov, was full of praise for Arsenal`s new signing.
"What can I say?" he told Sport Express. "Arshavin has proven that Russian players are capable of achieving success at the highest level."
